Celebrating 25 Years of Winemaking

Waterbrook Winery in the heart of Walla Walla, Washington is known for producing highly

acclaimed wines that boast outstanding quality. Founded in 1984, it was the fourth established

winery in Walla Walla and our name was chosen to complement the translation from Nez Perce

Indian dialect for the name Walla Walla, meaning "running water." Now in its 25th Anniversary

year, Waterbrook has grown from a family run operation to an internationally recognized

leader in Washington State winemaking. With numerous "Top Value" and "Best Buy" reviews,

Waterbrook's entire portfolio is consistently awarded for its focus on value and quality and has

earned the recognition as "Walla Walla's premium value wine."

"Founded in 1984, it established itself as the value brand in the region,

a mantle it can claim to this day." - Paul Gregutt, Wines & Wineries:

The Essential Guide

Waterbrook wines are sourced from the famed Columbia Valley; the largest of Washington's

nine appellations. The Columbia Valley covers almost 11 million acres and represents a third

of Washington's land mass.

  • With over 17,000 acres of viniferous grape vineyards, the vast size of the area allows for

a number of meso and micro climates.

  • Low rainfall and free-draining soils enable vineyard managers to control vine vigor in order

to promote flavor development.

  • Warm daytime temperatures ripen fruit to perfection, while cool autumn nights protect the

  • grapes' natural acidity.

Washington State

Washington wine country lies in a sunlit valley in the eastern part of the state. Sheltered by two

mountain ranges, the Cascades and the Olympics, the diverse environment creates the perfect climate for wine.

  • Washington state is the 2nd largest producer of premium wine in the country
  • Over 350 wine grape growers
  • Low rainfall of 6-8 inches per year allows winemakers the unique opportunity to manage

vineyard growth through drip irrigation.

  • Washington state produces 20 primary varietals ranging from the complex flavors found

in Syrah to floral Rieslings.

John Freeman, Waterbrook Winemaker

Born in San Francisco and raised in Nap Valley, John Freeman was destined to be in the wine industry.

John's initial work in California included seven years at Franciscan Vineyards and an additional five

spent as the Cellar Master at Miner Family.

Charmed by the Walla Walla Valley, John decided to move to Washington in 2002.  He started at

Waterbrook Winery in January 2003 as Assistant Winemaker and was promoted to Winemaker in

January 2005.

John wholeheartedly believes in Waterbrook's mission to produce premium, value wines for all to

enjoy.  From vine to bottle, he and his team carefully manage every step of the winemaking process

to ensure the overall complexity, balance and consistent quality that Waterbrook wines are known for.

John's favorite things about winemaking are expansive.  He is passionate about working with many

different growers discovering ways to improve the vineyards each year.  He enjoys experimenting

in the winery to find new ways of improving quality.  The opportunity to work with like-minded people

everyday, bring his dog with him and work in the vineyards in the summer makes his job that

much more enjoyable.

John and his family enjoy the wonderful Walla Walla community.  Always wearing a smile and

continually the optimist, he still can't believe he gets paid to do what he does.

Waterbrook is perfectly positioned to meet consumers' needs with consistent quality and value and

offers a variety of tiered wines to choose from including: Value, Melange, Reserve and Meritage.
