Three Floyds Brewing is an American brewery founded in 1996 in Hammond, Indiana. It moved to its current location in Munster, Indiana, in 2000 and opened up the brewpub in November 2005. Three Floyds beers feature assertive hops flavor and bitterness. Production is 4,800 barrels a year. The brewpub is located at 9750 Indiana Parkway, Munster, Indiana 46321. Brewery tours take place every Saturday at 3.00pm.
Dark Lord is the beer for which Three Floyds is most famous because it is widely[weasel words] rated as one of the best beers in the world [1][2]. The brewery describes it as a "Gargantuan Russian Stout brewed with coffee,molasses, and honey; 13% abv."[3] It is sold only on 'Dark Lord Day' which is the last Saturday in April. This event happens at the brewery in Indiana where each customer is limited to a set number of bottles (six bottles in 2008) and only cash is accepted. In 2009, with Dark Lord Day becoming increasingly popular,[weasel words] Three Floyds sold 2000 "golden tickets" online in March. These tickets guaranteed the bearer the right to purchase four bottles and one sample of Dark Lord. The proceeds from the ticket sales were then donated to charity. The rush to buy 2010 Dark Lord Day golden tickets was so overwhelming[weasel words] that Shopify had to temporarily disable inventory tracking for all of Shopify in order to keep the system up.
