Sumac Ridge Estate Winery is the first operating estate winery in British Columbia and celebrates it 29th anniversary in 2010. Established in the quaint town of Summerland, BC by founder Harry McWatters, Sumac Ridge is dedicated to producing premium wines that celebrate the essence of the Okanagan Valley.
Jason James joined the winemaking team at Sumac Ridge Estate Winery in the spring of 2005. In the last 5 years. Jason worked under Mark Wendenburg, increasing his winemaking capabilities. Now, as head winemaker, James' brings his experience and knowledge in making the best wine possible every year.
The winery team offer one of the most renowned winery experiences in Canada and, over the years, has been recognized for their passion, innovation and commitment to quality. Sumac Ridge Estate Winery produces a wide range of products with signature wines including Gewürztraminer, Merlot, Pinnacle, Sparkling, Icewine, Pipe and Meritage. The wines are created with food in mind, and to fit all occasions and celebrations.
Our Wines
Winemaker, Mark Wendenburg, one of the Okanagan's most awarded winemakers, has lead the winemaking team at Sumac Ridge Estate Winery since 1992. Mark is dedicated to producing quality vinifera wines and outstanding premium blends. A full range of award winning wines is offered: table wines, sparkling and dessert wines. Sumac Ridge pioneered classical sparkling wine production in British Columbia and was the first winery to introduce Meritage wines (premium blended wines using traditional Bordeaux grape varieties) to Canada.
Pinnacle As the name conveys, this is the highest quality level of wines produced by Sumac Ridge. We only produce these wines in the most outstanding years. Wines in our Pinnacle series remain very limited in quantities.
Sparkling Produced in the traditional "Champagne method", our classical sparkling wines continually garner international awards.
Black Sage Vineyard Wines produced exclusively from grapes grown on our premium Black Sage Vineyard in Oliver. This 115 acre vineyard is the most awarded vineyard in Canada. These amazing wines are intense, complex, and pair wonderfully with food.
