Speakeasy Ales and Lagers is a microbrewery located in the Hunter's Point neighborhood

of San Francisco, California

History and production

Speakeasy was founded in 1997 by Steve Bruce and Forest Gray. [1]

Speakeasy brands its beers with humorous reference to 1930s prohibition-era mobsters and

organized crime. Prohibition is one of the more popular local beers in San Francisco, available

in approximately 200 bars and restaurants and 1,000 stores in the San Francisco Bay Area,

although bottled beer is available regionally in California, eleven other states and British Columbia

as well. Its beers are flavorful and high in alcohol, ranging from approximately 5% to 10%

alcohol content by volume. Unlike many others, it does not operate on-site sales, restaurants,

or other retail operations except tours by appointment on Fridays, as well as a Friday happy

hour that is open to the public. [1].
