Silver lake winery released its first vintage in the fall of 1989. In the past fifteen years the winery has grown from 2,000 cases to more than 50,000 cases of hand crafted wine annually.

The winery began as the outgrowth of the passion for fine wines shared by three professors at the University of Washington and a local real estate investor. Today, Silver Lake is owned by over 1,200 wine enthusiasts who have pooled their resources together to make Silver Lake one of the state's largest locally owned wineries.

Roza hills vineyard, Silver Lake's primary source of grapes, is located In Zillah, Washington, in the heart of the rattlesnake hills AVA. The southern sloping Roza Spice Bowl, as It is sometimes referred to, is situated Between 900 and 1200 feet above sea level. The protected nature of the Roza Spice Bowl gives the Silver Lake winemakers fruit that is consistently ripe and balanced.

Silver Lake Cask Wines

Our Silver Lake 'Cask Series' wines are made for immediate consumption. This requires the winemaker to control the level of tannins and other compounds that usually require aging before the wine is ready. The time of skin and seed contact must be carefully monitored and the aging process must be completed with a limited amount of barrel contact. These wines are usually marketed within 12-18 months from the time of harvest and are made from grapes grown within the Rattle Snake Hills appellation.

Silver Lake Reserve Wines

Our Silver Lake 'Reserve Series' wines are designed for a broader segment of the super premium market segment. In Washington State a Reserve designation means that no more than 3,000 cases or 10% of a wineries' production as a reserve wine and indicates the winemaker's designation of this wine as higher quality than most wines from the winery.These wines are made in the classic French style using high quality production techniques and oak barrel aging. In addition, this series includes many of the Company's limited release or vineyard designated wines. These wines are distributed in restaurants, high-end grocery stores and wine shops primarily located in the Northwest.

Silver Lake Grand Reserve Wines

The Silver Lake "Grand Reserve Series" wines are designed for a very narrow market. Because of the higher quality production methods and related increased costs, production and availability of our Grand Reserve wines is limited. These "Ultra Premium" wines are made available to select restaurant wine lists, a few upscale grocery accounts, and high profile wine shops nationwide and in our Silver Lake tasting rooms.

Our Grand Reserve wines account for less than 5% of the Company's production, but are expected to establish the standard for the Company's entire line of products. In Washington State, a Reserve designation means that no more than 3,000 cases or 10% of a wineries' production as a reserve wine and indicates the winemaker's designation of this wine as higher quality than most wines from the winery. Our Grand Reserve wines have an even higher standard so they were given the "Grand" distinction. Silver Lake currently produces a Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot, Claret and a methode champenoise Brut in this series.
