Welcome to Maryhill Winery !

At Maryhill we feel that winemaking is not about lifted noses and highbrow personalities.

It's about training a vine for vintages to come, and crafting flavors unique to each harvest of the past. At Maryhill, we embrace this time-honored challenge in a setting as rich as the wines we bring to your table.

We hope you can come to visit and share in the magic of Maryhill.  Until then, we invite you to view this short video as a picture cannot possibly describe the beauty... view a wonderful video on Maryhill Winery.

About Us Maryhill Winery

Our History -

Nearly a century before the entrepreneurial Leuthold family broke ground on the Maryhill Winery site, the breathtakingly beautiful lands bordering the Columbia River drew another entrepreneur - Sam Hill.

In 1907, millionaire attorney and road builder Hill purchased 5,300 acres of land along the Columbia River and set out to build an independent farming community named after his wife, Mary. Unfortunately, unanticipated problems like the need for irrigation soon deflated Hill's dream and the community dissipated. Construction on the Hill family mansion stopped in 1917, which was later established as the Maryhill Museum.

In 1999, Craig and Vicki Leuthold established Maryhill Winery and set out to produce premier wines on the land adjacent to where Hill sought to fulfill his dream years before. Originally hailing from Spokane, Wash., Craig and Vicki Leuthold cashed in their corporate careers and followed their dream of starting a winery to Goldendale, Wash. Located at the Southern tip of the Columbia Valley appellation, the area is not only an area of unsurpassed natural beauty; its warm climate, Walla Walla silt loam soil resting on remnants of the Missoula flood and steady breezes make it an ideal site for growing wine grapes.

In 2000, the Leutholds began construction on their winery just west of Maryhill Museum on a bluff overlooking Gunkel Vineyard, one of the state's oldest and most established vineyard sites. The Gunkel family has successfully farmed the fertile lands surrounding Maryhill for four generations, growing world-class wine grapes used by the Leutholds and many other Washington state wine producers today.

In May 2001, Maryhill Winery opened its doors as one of only 100 wineries in the state. Today, there are more than 600 Washington wineries. With a lot of hard work and determination, the Leutholds achieved their dream of creating a true destination winery with a 3,000-square-foot tasting room, a beautiful covered arbor, picnic grounds and an adjacent 4,000 seat amphitheater that hosts a world-class summer concert series. The winery has grown from a modest 4,300 case production in 1999 to more than 80,000 cases today, making it the 15th largest winery in the state.

Named "2009 Washington Winery of the Year" by Wine Press Northwest, Maryhill produces 19 varietals and a total of 27 award-winning wines. The winery welcomes more than 75,000 visitors per year, has a 900+ member wine club and is distributed across the U.S.
