Magic Hat Vinyl Lager is the spring seasonal offering from the Magic Hat Brewery in Burlington,

 VT. The Better Beer discusses the merits of this fine lager.

Hi Im James Knott and this is your Better Beer Authority.

Today we are talking about Magic Hat Vinyl Lager a brand-new spring seasonal offering from the

 Magic Hat Brewery in Burlington, Vermont. Magic Hat has been in business since 1994 and currently

distributes their beer to 26 states.

Vinyl is an Amber Lager with 5.1% ABV and 16 IBUs. The brewery says that it is brewed with lager

yeast, but at the low end of the ale fermentation temperatures.

The color of this beer is 12 SRMs. What are SRMs?

SRM stands for Standard Reference Method. It is a system that brewers use to measure the color

intensity or darkness of a beer. It is listed in degrees Lovibond and measured with a spectrophotometer.

The higher the number, the darker the beer. A few examples A light lager might be a 2 or 3. A

traditional Bock Beer might be between 15 to 20 and a dark stout like Guiness might top out at 40.
