9 Nov Back to France to See our Vineyard Partners! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, here I am after a long and industrious 2010 year in wine, food,
travel, even some bourbon or tequila when the mood strikes right. On
my way for a 10-day stint to meet with our partners who actually make
wines for BevMo! and my stubborn palate. Well, it is not that
stubborn, but my palate does direct to me to special flavors in wines.
While I rarely travel across the Atlantic in November (most of my
French travel runs from February to July), I am looking forward to
quite respite as I taste hundreds of wines for our Vineyard Partners
program. Of course, we will have our share of Lafite, Rayas, Billecart,
Roumier as well, why not? Don't we deserve it? Among our stops will
be a visiting our, long time friends in Bordeaux, a quick spin to Fitou,
meetings in the Rhone Valley, a spin off to Chablis, and finally a day
in Paris as well as a drop into London. Designed to be a working trip
(they always are), my role will be hard nose time with the technical
teams and tweaking the wines to our way of life. Our Vineyards
Partners program has gotten so intense that I have to be touching
the vines and inspecting the caves. Well, it isn't that serious, but
tasting and developing the products is a long term deal. For those of
you that are not totally familiar with these wines, I encourage you to
taste some our best. The '07 Chateau Ballan Larquette is a darling
Bordeaux rouge with fine intensity and energy. The '07 Grandes
Serres Chateauneuf-du-Pape La Cour de Papes is a stunning wine
that can age over the next half-a-dozen years. Earlier this year, we
poured it at a big tasting and wowed the audience. We will revisit
Chateau de Brandey, one of greatest discoveries. The '08 Chateau de
Brandey is spectacular and boasts of so much fruit, that you'd think
the wine was from the New World. But it is well grounded in fruit de
terroir! As I board my plane on Thursday, November 11th, I will be
thinking of the cold weather and the solace of the warmth that will be
provided by some our best winery partners in the business. Ask our
BevMo! associates about our Vineyard Partners wines, they are just
not slapped together with some made up label, they have become a
labor of love. Oh, BTW, they are from all over including Argentina,
Chile, and our home base, California. The team at Chateau de
Brandey (May 19, 2009, Bordeaux, France) Me, relaxing in
